How did you start your journey at Dolphin Drilling?
I started at Dolphin Drilling in 1984 as a Roughneck on the Borgsten Dolphin. It was my first of many roles at the Company and the start of an exciting career journey with Dolphin Drilling. The positions held at Dolphin include Roughneck, Derrickman, Assistant Driller, Driller, Nightpusher, Toolpusher, Project Manager, Rig Manager, Operations Manager, Managing Director and my current role as Chief Operating Officer. In this position, I use my strategic leadership skills to effectively manage, guide, and mentor rig teams and drilling crews to achieve superior operational performance, team effectiveness, and HSE compliance. My career progression has been driven by hard work, adaptability, and the opportunities provided by Dolphin.
How would you describe the company culture?
Dolphin’s culture is family-oriented and values flexibility for its employees. It’s an easy and enjoyable place to work, with continuous opportunities for career advancement. I’ve always appreciated how the company values every individual’s contribution, creating an environment where collaboration thrives and colleagues feel supported.
What makes Dolphin different from other companies you’ve previously worked at?
As mentioned, Dolphin’s family-oriented atmosphere, but also the straightforward reporting lines, and supportive colleagues set it apart. Communication is easy and efficient, which makes it a great place to work.
How has Dolphin adapted to industry changes or challenges over the years?
While we haven’t always needed to adapt entirely, we’ve done our best to evolve within the constraints of our equipment and resources and do any necessary upgrades in line with industry standards.
Proudest achievement or memorable moments throughout your time here?
Some of my proudest achievements include:
- 2000: Working on the Bideford, Borgland, and Belford rigs as they came out of the shipyard.
- 2007: Rebuilding the Bredford and Blackford rigs. This was a significant milestone that showcased our technical expertise and teamwork.
- 2010: Overseeing the build of the Bollsta and the purchase of the Bollette. These projects were challenging but immensely satisfying, as they represented Dolphin’s commitment to growth and innovation.
As a company, we’ve accomplished so much together through collective efforts and teamwork.
What company value resonates with you most?
Trust. It’s the foundation of everything we do, from collaborating on projects to making critical decisions. Trust enables open communication, mutual respect, and a shared sense of responsibility.
What has kept you committed and motivated to Dolphin for so long?
The company culture and the variety of responsibilities I’ve had over the years have kept me motivated. Every day is different, and I enjoy the flexibility and responsibility that come with my role.
What lessons have you learned during your time at Dolphin?
I’ve learned to present the brutal facts and manage multiple duties, tasks, and projects simultaneously.

Seize the opportunities you are given. You’ll learn so much during your time here. Always be respectful to your colleagues and remember that every challenge is an opportunity to grow
