We are proud to pledge our support to the Young Person’s Guarantee, joining organisations across Scotland in our commitment to creating the best opportunities for young people. This initiative aligns perfectly with our values and our dedication to contributing positively to the local community. We believe that investing in the next generation is crucial for building a sustainable and thriving workforce for the future.
What is the Young Person’s Guarantee?
The Young Person’s Guarantee is dedicated to connecting every 16-24-year-old in Scotland with valuable opportunities, whether through jobs, apprenticeships, further or higher education, training or volunteering.
DYW North East plays a crucial role in delivering this initiative by helping regional employers pledge their support. By offering opportunities that align with their business needs, employers contribute significantly to the success of the Young Person’s Guarantee.
Employers are vital to developing our young workforce and ensuring the region’s future success. By pledging, businesses not only support young people but also gain early access to future talent, which can help build a robust pipeline for the future.
The pledge revolves around four key areas where employers can get involved, preparing young people for the world of work, investing in a skilled workforce, creating an inclusive and fair workplace and championing the Young Person's Guarantee. Sharing experiences and advocating for the Young Person's Guarantee can inspire others to participate, amplifying the initiative’s reach and creating even more opportunities for young people.
What Dolphin Drilling is Doing to Help
We are deeply committed to the principles of the Young Person’s Guarantee and have already taken several steps to support the young workforce. A key driving force behind pledging our support was our VP of Marketing & Contracts, Michael Boyd. Michael states “We're committed to helping young people realise their potential and discover the exciting opportunities within the energy sector. Supporting the next generation is key to building a vibrant and sustainable future for all.” Michael's mentorship of a young adult at a local city school further reflects his and our dedication to developing young talent in our community.
Our HR department has conducted mock interviews to help young people prepare for the job market. Using a standardised set of questions, we discussed topics like hobbies, future goals, time management, and teamwork to give each participant a consistent interview experience. Throughout the afternoon, we interviewed five students from 5th and 6th year at Lochside Academy, provided guidance on creating CVs, and answered their questions about the world of work. Our senior management team has also delivered class talks, one of which was at Aberdeen Grammar School, focusing on #NoWrongPath career journeys. The talk provided insights into the energy industry, highlighting that the path you start on doesn’t determine your end destination. Michael shared an overview of his career to show that, regardless of where you begin, you can reach your goals
